 The old year ends at Samhain and the new year begins - on this night the veils between this and the other world dissolve. Samhain is a festival of the ancestors, a festival of the soul. We can use this night to honor our ancestors, to ask them for support for special concerns, or to say goodbye to topics in the ancestral line that we do not want to pass on. Nature has withdrawn - her powers rest in the protection of mother earth. November is a quiet, calm month that invites us to pause and trustingly to go into the depths, into the descent of darkness. The graves are decorated on November 1st. Relatives and friends of the deceased visit the graves in the cemeteries and light candles as a sign of solidarity.
